How a water softener install day goes

Last updated on Jul 10, 2026

Here is what to expect when Triple Crown installs your water softener, from prep to the final walkthrough.

Before we arrive

Clear a small working area around your main water line. It is usually in the garage, basement, or a utility closet. The softener also needs a nearby drain and a standard power outlet. Not sure your space works? Text a photo to (801) 634-0177 and we will check it before install day.

During the install

Most installs are finished in a single visit. Your installer will:

  1. Walk through the plan with you before starting.
  2. Shut off your water. This is the only downtime, and it is usually brief.
  3. Connect the softener to your main line so treated water reaches the whole house.
  4. Run the drain line and plug in the unit.
  5. Turn the water back on and check every connection for leaks.
  6. Add salt and program the system for your household size and water hardness.

Before we leave

The installer shows you how everything works: where the salt goes, what the display means, and what normal operation sounds like. Ask anything. You should not be left with open questions when we walk out.

The first few days

You may notice air in your pipes at first. Run your taps for a minute and it clears. The system regenerates on its own, usually overnight. Hearing water run during that cycle is normal.
